Head Of State

I happened to see this movie a few weeks ago and it brought back some feelings I felt a few years ago. I remember going with my parents to the movies when it first came out. I never thought it would later parallel our first black president, Barack Obama. Although it was a comedy, it showed aspects that I thought could end up happening to a black man running for president. For instance: Mays Gilliam being down severely in the polls only to catapult upwards in votes, going against the odds to recieve people's votes, and going against a seemingly racist opponent. Now that I'm older, I can pick out the stereotypical aspects of the film as well. For example: Mays Gilliam wearing Nike and FUBU during his speechs, choosing his brother as his running mate, his "pimped out" tour bus, and him DJing at the party earlier in the movie. Its ironic that 4 years later we now have our first black president, however he's no Mays Gilliam...which is a good thing! (lol)
