Acting Rappers

I guess it has become more of the standard in Hollywood now. Just about everyone who has touched music will eventually star in a film. Most of the movies are terrible by the way, but I find it bad for the actual actors who have been doing this job for years. How are they going to find work? I think the only rapper that should continue making movies is Will Smith. He's the only one who I think is "made" for acting. I prefer his acting to his music actually. I don't think any other rapper should be in film unless they can bring as much to the table as Will Smith. The only other rapper that I believe can make a good movie is Ice Cube. Other than that, every rapper should stop trying to take up acting. Stick to your music.

Head Of State

I happened to see this movie a few weeks ago and it brought back some feelings I felt a few years ago. I remember going with my parents to the movies when it first came out. I never thought it would later parallel our first black president, Barack Obama. Although it was a comedy, it showed aspects that I thought could end up happening to a black man running for president. For instance: Mays Gilliam being down severely in the polls only to catapult upwards in votes, going against the odds to recieve people's votes, and going against a seemingly racist opponent. Now that I'm older, I can pick out the stereotypical aspects of the film as well. For example: Mays Gilliam wearing Nike and FUBU during his speechs, choosing his brother as his running mate, his "pimped out" tour bus, and him DJing at the party earlier in the movie. Its ironic that 4 years later we now have our first black president, however he's no Mays Gilliam...which is a good thing! (lol)

Ignorant Songs

There are a lot of stupid songs on the radio today if I must say so myself. It makes me question our current state in music. Even though I don't condone this stupidity, I can't help but notice myself dancing just as much as everyone else to these songs at parties. Maybe its the southerner in me that makes me start dancing as soon as the song comes on. Either way, I find the songs entertaining to say the least. Now with that being said, I wonder how some of these people actually get record deals. I know music has not been completely reduced to "Stanky Legg" by the GS Boyz or "Do The Ricky Bobby" by B-Hamp. I feel as if a lot of this nonsense is taking over. What ever happened to the good times in music? Back when we had Marvin Gaye or Michael Jackson(before he went through that "phase") Some may think I'm too young to know about that era in music, but i do find myself listening and seeing the difference in what we play today. Yes, at times an ignorant song is needed to get the party started, but hopefully they won't be needed much longer.

The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button

I have been wanting to see this movie for months now. Finally got a chance to see it last night. Just from looking at the previews of the film, I knew it would be a great movie. Plus, there was this big mystery I wanted answered. What made Benjamin Button age in reverse? Upon seeing the film, I had mixed reviews. All in all, I felt as if it was a good film. At times I felt sorry for Benjamin Button and what he had to go through. Always noticing that he wasn't like everyone else and he couldn't entirely live a normal life. I felt as if the movie held on to family ties and the meaning of friendship. The only drawback I found was not finding out what made him age in reverse. Which is truly what I watched the movie for...

Slumdog Millionaire

I was kind of skeptical about seeing this movie once I saw the trailers for it, it did not seem to have a purpose at all. It ended up being a truly compelling movie. Almost brought tears to my eyes. I liked the fact that Jamal could answer the questions on the game show because of what he had experienced through out his life. I think that had to have been my favorite aspect of the film. Everyone thought he had cheated but he had earned the skills to answer through life. Friendship was also a key factor in this movie. I enjoyed how the three friends had managed to still have a bond even though they had all been through so much. I rate this movie a must see. A top ten in my book.

Boyz N The Hood

I remember watching Boyz N The Hood for the first time as a child. Didn't think much of it; didn't quite understand the meaning of it. Now that I'm older, I understand more of the themes and morals it was trying to get across. I also noticed the similarities that it had to certain parts of my life. Friends growing up together, leading very different lives in the process. But for those of us whom have never seen the movie, its basically about three friends, Tre(Cuba Gooding Jr.), Doughboy(Ice Cube) and Ricky(Morris Chestnut) as they live out their lives in South Central LA. I'm sure everyone in the theaters went crazy when Ricky got shot and it was even worse knowing that he got that 700 on the SAT that he needed. I'm also sure everyone knew that Doughboy would die at some point due to his gangster lifestyle as well. All in all, a good movie; showed the strong relationship between a father and son, a young man torn between his friends and his future, and the violence in our neighborhoods. Well...I'm off, until next time readers...

{Sorry if I spoiled the ending for those who haven't seen it [lol]}
