I remember watching Boyz N The Hood for the first time as a child. Didn't think much of it; didn't quite understand the meaning of it. Now that I'm older, I understand more of the themes and morals it was trying to get across. I also noticed the similarities that it had to certain parts of my life. Friends growing up together, leading very different lives in the process. But for those of us whom have never seen the movie, its basically about three friends, Tre(Cuba Gooding Jr.), Doughboy(Ice Cube) and Ricky(Morris Chestnut) as they live out their lives in South Central LA. I'm sure everyone in the theaters went crazy when Ricky got shot and it was even worse knowing that he got that 700 on the SAT that he needed. I'm also sure everyone knew that Doughboy would die at some point due to his gangster lifestyle as well. All in all, a good movie; showed the strong relationship between a father and son, a young man torn between his friends and his future, and the violence in our neighborhoods.
